Issue 19: Open AI, Oh No!

🗞️ AI News of The Week: GPT5 💩

Short Review of Chat GPT-5: I wanted to love it, but it is slow, lacking personality and the quality of responses is just not as good as past models. Very disappointed.

Mike’s Take on GPT-5
I pay $20/month for ChatGPT and honestly not sure how I’ve survived without sometimes. I jump around to all of the major chat assistants (Claude, Perplexity, Grok, Gemini, etc) and use them for different reasons, but ChatGPT is always the one I go back to. It has always had that perfect blend of creative and tech with clear answers and great text formatting for long text. I also love Sora for images and the custom GPTs are great.

GPT-4 was so powerful and awesome and there was a lot of chatter that GPT-5 was mind-boggling good and was smarter than the average bear. I was excited and the first day or so I noticed a significant change in the responses, but told myself it was because ChatGPT was maturing and getting smarter, and maybe I wasn’t smart enough to understand. Several days later and I realize that it wasn’t me, GPT-5 stinks. The personality is gone (it may have been a little too nice before, but I liked it) and the responses are lazy and honestly low-quality. I caught a ton of mistakes and it just constantly asks me to confirm everything before it will generate responses.

I could go on an on, but so far, I am very disappointed in GPT-5, but not giving up hope because the internet spoke loud and I know they will go back to the drawing board and fix it. It’s a real bummer, but Grok, Gemini & Claude will pick up the slack until Open AI rebounds.

🧠 AI Term of The Week: Chain of Thought (CoT)

Explain It Like I’m 5:
Imagine you're trying to solve a puzzle. Instead of just guessing the final answer, you show all the little steps you took to get there.

Chain of Thought is just like that. It's a special way of teaching a computer to think out loud. Instead of giving a simple answer like "yes" or "no," the computer shows its work, step by step, just like you would on a math problem. This helps the computer get the right answer more often, especially for tricky questions, because it's forced to think through the logic.

  1. "First, I need to find the number of apples."

  2. "Next, I'll figure out how many oranges there are."

  3. "Then, I'll add them together to get the total."

Why it matters for creators:
CoT makes AI outputs clearer, more accurate, and easier to debug or remix. Whether you're prompting for stories, code, or captions, thinking with the model leads to better results.
