Mike’s Take: This letter is like trying to boil the ocean. AI & Superintelligence is inevitable and we absolutely need to proceed with caution and stay on top of it every step of the way, but the train has left the station and it aint goin’ back.

Summary:
More than 850 prominent figures…AI pioneers, Nobel laureates, business leaders, cultural icons, and former military and political officials signed a statement coordinated by the Future of Life Institute, urging a halt to superintelligence development until clear safety and public consensus is achieved.

  • Core demands of the statement:
    The ban would prohibit developing AI systems that surpass human cognitive ability, unless there is scientific consensus on their safety, strong democratic oversight, and robust public support.

  • Risks and warnings:
    The letter draws on Alan Turing’s warning that superintelligent machines might inevitably take control once surpassing humans.

  • Industry context and high-profile absences:
    Major AI company leaders like Sam Altman (OpenAI) and Mustafa Suleyman (Microsoft AI) did not sign the statement, even as their companies press ahead.


🧠 AI Term of The Week: WebHooks

WebHooks are often described as a "reverse API" because, instead of you making a request to an API, the API reaches out to you when something you want happens on the API.

Webhooks are used a lot in n8n automations and I always thought they were used when a service did not have an API. I was wrong.

  • API’s → You call them

  • WebHook → API’s call you

Explain It Like I’m 5 Definition:
You tell one computer: "Here is my address (a URL). If this one specific thing happens (like a payment goes through or a photo is uploaded), you must immediately send a message to this address."
