Merry Christmas & Happy New Year To All!

πŸ—žοΈ AI News of The Week: Your Year with ChatGPT

Like nearly every tech company out there, OpenAI rolled out a year in review option in ChatGPT. Open ChatGPT and it should prompt you to view automatically. Look in the sidebar to pull it back up at anytime.

Your Year with ChatGPT is a new annual review feature, similar to Spotify Wrapped, launched by OpenAI to summarize your interactions with the chatbot over the past year.

Key Features

  • Personalized "Awards": Users receive titles based on their usage patterns, such as "Creative Debugger" for those who use the tool to brainstorm or solve problems.

  • Custom Content: The experience generates a unique poem and an AI-generated image based on your most frequent topics of interest. Β

  • Interactive Access: You can trigger the experience by asking ChatGPT directly for "Your Year with ChatGPT" or by clicking the prompt on the home screen.

🧠 AI Term of The Week: Catastrophic Forgetting

Note: I mean, what a name for an AI Term (one that I unfortunately, can relate to).

Catastrophic forgetting happens when an AI model "forgets" what it previously learned after being trained on new information like studying for a new exam and suddenly blanking on everything from the last one. This is why you can't just keep training the same model indefinitely without careful techniques to preserve old knowledge.

  • Major challenge in continual learning and fine-tuning

  • Why foundation models are typically trained once on massive datasets rather than updated continuously
