🗞️ AI News of The Week: OpenAI Acquires OpenClaw 🦞

OpenAI hired Peter Steinberger, the solo developer behind the viral open-source agent OpenClaw.

OpenClaw (formerly known as Clawdbot, then Moltbot) exploded onto the scene in January when Steinberger built an AI assistant that could actually do things. Within weeks it had spawned 1.5 million agents and was costing $20,000/month to run. Meta and Microsoft both came calling. Steinberger chose OpenAI because they agreed to keep OpenClaw open source. The internet has not stopped talking about OpenClaw. The virality of this project is kinda bonkers.

Why this matters:

  • The AI race is no longer about what a model can say, it's about what AI can do.

  • OpenClaw was one of Anthropic's biggest API customers (most users ran it on Claude), making this a notable competitive win for OpenAI

  • Steinberger's goal: build "an agent that even my mum can use" …the race for mainstream personal agents is on

🧠 AI Term of The Week: Stateless

Definition: A stateless system handles each request independently, with no memory of previous interactions. Each call starts fresh, as if nothing came before it.

Explain Like I'm 5: Imagine calling customer support, but the rep has no notes from your last call. Every single time you call, you start completely from scratch — they don't know your name, your issue, or anything you discussed before.

Real examples:

  • Not stateless: Claude remembering your name, preferences, and previous questions throughout a long conversation

  • Stateless: A basic chatbot that greets you with "How can I help?" every time, with zero memory of past sessions

  • Not stateless: A shopping site that keeps your cart saved and knows your order history when you return

  • Stateless: A standard LLM API call — the model receives only what you send in that single request and has no knowledge of anything prior

💬 Quote of the Week:

🧰 AI Tool of The Week: Weavy AI

What is Weavy AI?:
A node-based, browser-based creative platform that brings together the world's leading AI models and professional editing tools in one unified canvas, built for designers, marketers, and creative teams.

It’s similar to ComfyUI, only more hip and modern. Weavy AI gives you generative AI (Midjourney, Nano Banana, etc), but with 100% fine tune control so you can create anything you want every single time. You add nodes and adjust the settings and once you get it how you want, it’s predictable and consistent until you adjust the settings.

Real-world example: A marketing team builds one Weavy workflow that generates product visuals, applies brand color grades, and outputs ready-to-post assets. Every campaign after that? Same workflow, consistent results, in a fraction of the time.
