🗞️ AI News of The Week:
OpenAI co-founder Andrej Karpathy joins Anthropic
Andrej Karpathy, OpenAI co-founder and former Tesla AI lead, has officially joined Anthropic's pre-training team. He's reporting to team lead Nick Joseph and starting a group focused on using Claude to accelerate pre-training research itself.
Karpathy is seen as an ‘AI Guru’ online and is an excellent AI educator. Good grab by Anthropic.
Why this matters:
Talent migration story of 2026. One of the most respected names in AI picked Anthropic over a return to OpenAI.
Claude gets a brain boost. Pre-training is where the model's core knowledge lives, and Karpathy is now shaping it.
AI building AI. His new team is using Claude to speed up the very research that improves Claude.
Validation for Anthropic's direction. Karpathy publicly said he wanted to get back into frontier LLM research, and he chose Claude.
🧠 AI Term of The Week: GUI
Definition:
Definition: GUI stands for Graphical User Interface. It's the visual layer of buttons, menus, windows, and icons you click on instead of typing commands.
🔊 Sounds like “Gooey”
Real examples:
Opening Open WebUI (see below) in your browser and clicking a model from a dropdown
Clicking "Restart" on a container inside the Hostinger dashboard
Why it matters now:
Most powerful AI tools still live behind command lines (terminals), which scares off non-developers.
A great GUI is the difference between an AI tool 100 people use and one a million people use.

🧰 AI Tool of The Week: Open WebUI
What is Open WebUI:
A self-hosted, ChatGPT-style interface for running your own AI models privately, with full control over your data and zero monthly subscription.
What it does:
Gives any local or API-based model (Ollama, OpenAI, Claude, Gemini) a clean chat interface in your browser
Supports document upload, RAG, voice chat, image generation, and a built-in Python code interpreter
Adds multi-user accounts, role-based access, and custom agents so a small team can share one private instance
Looks and feels like ChatGPT, but nothing leaves your network
Completely free and open source, no per-seat pricing as your team grows
Real-world example:
Open WebUI works great on a VPS with TailScale. Spin it up on a $7/month Hostinger box, lock it down behind your TailScale network, and you've got a private ChatGPT replacement on your phone, laptop, and iPad without exposing a single port to the public internet. (Tutorial coming soon).
